We’re looking forward to meeting you at our events!

Crucibles

Our Crucibles are interdisciplinary, cross-sector events that foster collaborations between researchers and innovators. Each Crucible is held across two sets of dates during the year.

Do you want to:

  • Have real space and time to think about yourself and your work?
  • Meet researchers who you would never normally meet?
  • Build trusted collaborations?

We are offering you all the opportunity to experience our Crucible Programme. The programme is designed to form an interdisciplinary, cross-sector network that fosters collaborations between researchers and innovators who normally don’t get the chance to meet.

Our experience is that this model creates lasting networks, beyond the life of the programme. It is designed to introduce people to new ways of thinking and working. We will have some short facilitated sessions, inspiring speakers and time to collaborate – and squeeze in a bit of fun.

Our Crucibles are developed by Samantha Aspinall with Emma Spary and Ruth Winden.

Please remember you have committed to the dates for BOTH sessions A and B in order to participate fully in this event and to follow up the work undertaken in the first session.

Crucible 1 (Leeds)

  • 6-7 July 2023
  • 21-22 September 2023

Crucible 2 (Cardiff)

  • 5-6 February 2024 (within reason +- a couple of days)
  • 21-22 March 2024

If you are a PATHWAYS participant and have registered to take part in one of our Crucibles, we will email you with further details about the event.

Leadership Retreats

Our three-day residential Leadership Retreat is designed to give you insights to navigate your leadership development productively.  The interactive, reflective content will gradually build a toolkit which you can take back and apply to your work.

The Retreat is also an opportunity to network with your peers, enabling you to share your leadership challenges and goals, and spend focused time co-developing strategies for leading effectively.

The programme is designed around three key areas of leadership:

  1. Leadership of self – communication style, personality preferences, emotional intelligence
  2. Leadership of others – influencing and supporting teams and individuals, irrespective of your role
  3. Leadership in action – being strategic, creating a vision and setting priorities.

Within the retreat, these different elements will be examined through a combination of theoretical insights, self-reflection, and group discussion, followed by practical action planning and commitment setting.

  • Leadership Retreat 1 (Bristol/Bath) – 26-28 Sep 2023
  • Leadership Retreat 2 (Edinburgh) – 15-17 April 2024
  • Leadership Retreat (Birmingham) – 23-25 Sep 2024

If you are a PATHWAYS participant and have registered to take part in one of our Leadership Retreats, we will email you with further details about the event approximately one month before it takes place.

Community Building Event

This one-day community building event is designed to help PATHWAYS participants solidify connections developed over the course of the programme. Held in Summer 2024, the event will allow you to engage with colleagues from across the UK, and build networks across disciplines.

Dr Geraint Wyn Story will open the event by introducing Lego Serious Play, a recognised tool for identifying, diagnosing, and tackling complex problems encountered through research and innovation. Lego Serious Play is a facilitated process which enables participants to access intangible insights and deep knowledge through creativity, and which prioritises equality of time and contribution. In this session, you will  learn how these simple toy bricks can be deployed to solve complex problems affecting your work, your team, or your career.

In our second session, Samantha Aspinall, Specialist in Interdisciplinary Research at the Future Leaders Fellows Development Network, will explore the concept of community building, encouraging PATHWAYS participants to interact and explore ways of building and maintaining networks within their teams, institutions, and with each other.

This event is designed to allow participants to get to know one another outside of training, build a sense of peer support, and provoke excitement for future collaborations.

The Community Building Event will take place in London on 10 July 2024.

If you are a PATHWAYS participant and have registered to take part in our Community Building Event, we will email you with further details.

Research Project Management Course

This online programme from MY Consultants is designed for PIs and contains content specifically for researchers and innovators. The course explores how to effectively apply project management principles to research projects based in universities and research organisations.

This is project management tailored specifically to the research context.
